Golda Meir (1898-1978 ), born in Kiev, Ukraine, was a founding mother of the State of Israel and Prime Minister from 1969 to 1974.

Though he still had reservations about Palestine, Morris was sufficiently drawn to the idea of living there to agree to go with me. His decision was undoubtedly influenced to some extent by the fact that in November, 1917, the British government announced that it favored “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people”…The Balfour Declaration…against the background of this historic event that we were married, on December 24, 1917, at my parents’ home…
